Salvador blues
Salvador blues
-------------------
There's a lil winding street
somewhere in Salvador
that winded up my life
my pride, my happiness,
all spiraled down
I coveted, I lied
I drank the blood-sweat wine
that tears up on alley walls
and sticks on passerbys
my punishment swift
like Godly menace
they almost had me that night
in numbers and with arms
and all I saw was her
Nothing else, no fear,
just heavy, unbearable,
impending loss
why is it like that?
this itchy thing inside
that craves what is new
even if it is the end?
The streets of Salvador
are all awash of it
the spirits as they call them
of men and all saints
the bay they roam
the enclave of good and bad
Did my body know it?
Did my mind feel it?
The ancient serum
of vanity and desire
when I bathed?
Still, love is real
my mind is a little island
in her bright green waters
and I just a Crusoe
who forgot his mother tongue
fighting to see just one more day
of her glory
