Electronics cartel in Greece
Looks like there's no end to unethical practices in Greece; one finds those at all levels.
Latest example I came across is cartel pricing on certain popular electronic products by, it seems, all major store chains in Greece.
I was looking to buy this Sony mp3 player for my wife: http://www.sony.gr/product/nws-b-series/nwz-b143f As you can see you can buy it directly from Sony Greece for 65 Euros. Fine. Then I looked it up on three other major Greek online electronics stores:

http://www.multirama.gr/products/product?pid=0411939&catid=061300
Wow! It costs exactly the same on all of them!
Checking prices on UK stores I not only found the same product much cheaper, which is to be expected given the sorry state of the British Pound while proving once more that buying online from the UK saves you a lot, but also at slightly varying prices as is to be expected in a market that is driven by competition.

Greek merchants, SHAME ON YOU!

something is wrong in the market...
Dear Fotis
Regarding prices of well known products in Greek market, you should be aware that there is a huge issue with profit margins, that's why you get the same price everywhere. Apart from X company imposing specific prices for specific countries.
If you are www.plaisio.gr you may have the same profit margin (around 10%), but if you are a local store that may decreased up to 2%. Here is how it is done.
Sony for example has a specific pricing strategy and imposes that the specific mp3 player will be sold at 59,99 euros. PLaisio/Multirama/Mediamarkt etc will but this product around 42,59 euros (actually this is the imposed price), then they will add 19 percent VAT plus 10 percent profit margin and voila! The local store may buy this from sony around 55 euros.
Sony UK may have a total different pricing strategy...
Imagine that the real cost of production of the mp3 player maybe as high as 10 euros...
sure but
sure but I don't see why some company that wants to be more competitive won't drop their profit to something below the 10% margin, counting on making up by a higher number of sales. Is that prohibited? That is if Sony won't vary their volume buyer's cost depending on volume. Something is definitely wrong in the market...
Try expansys.com.gr - they
Try expansys.com.gr - they run from France but they operate in Greek in Greece. I don't know about the prices. What about good old Ebay - usually you can get MP3 players for 1/2 the price from Hong Kong. I never had any problems with delivery or anything.
nice
looks nice - thanks for the link. Well, they don't have that particular product to make comparisons but they got some good prices. I also buy most of my electronics (even bigger pieces) off UK's ebay and amazon. Sometimes small items from HK based stores. Savings can be from good to amazing!
